The Song Of The Redeemed

Their mouths open wide now to sing
Lifting high the Savior above
As praises from joyful souls spring
And hearts express wonder and love

For the One who died in their place
When He bore their own sin and hell
And showed His love, power and grace
In the Story the scriptures tell

May His praise resound in the earth
May our lives be notes on a page
May the song that displays His worth
Be sung to the end of the age

He Satisfies My Soul

I can’t think of anything that delights and soothes my soul as much as reflecting on the person of God, as revealed in the scriptures.

“‘Love your neighbor as yourself’ means that we should take all the zeal, ingenuity, and perseverance we have for our own good and apply it to others.” ~desiringgod.org

“Love….means interrupt[ing] your schedule, and us[ing] up your oil, wine and money to achieve what you think is best for your neighbor. It means having a heart which is disposed to seek another person’s good.” ~desiringgod.org

“All men desire and seek what they think is best for them. This universal human trait [is] the rule to which all loving self-sacrifice must measure up.” desiringgod.org

“As I see it, the meaning of the command, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself,’ is this: our Lord is aiming to call into being loving, compassionate, merciful men and women whose hearts summon them irresistibly into action when there is suffering within their reach. And to that end he demands that they again and again ask themselves this question: am I desiring and seeking the temporal and eternal good of my neighbor with the same zeal, ingenuity and perseverance that I seek my own?” ~desiringgod.org

A Friend Told Me This Story

“Three or four years ago I made a homemade Valentines card for my husband Dan. I have given him the same card every year since then and he has no idea that it is the same card from previous years! I am wondering if he will ever catch on. It is funny to me and I laugh harder every year. I make a little notch on the card every year so that I can remember how many years have passed. Maybe when there are twenty notches on it, he will ask me ‘what are all these notches for?’ And I will be so old, and laughing so hard I will probably pee my pants.

“Dan and I don’t celebrate Valentines Day together, but in my heart it’s a very special day for me as I wait for him to get home from work, sit down to eat supper and find this card on his place mat. I hold my breath and wait… and he says, ‘wow, this is so nice.’ I wrote all over the front of it, using those little sayings that are on those heart candies, and like clockwork he says, ‘aww Be mine.’ Then he opens it up and reads the long mushy love letter I wrote him and he usually tears up. And by this time I am teared up too, from trying not to laugh too hard.”
